Vodafone Qatar to launch fixed line phone service

Vodafone have announced that they are in talks with major developers in Qatar to be an exclusive fixed line provider once their licence application is approved.

Michael Portz, Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Qatar said that the company was in discussions with some of the country's leading real estate developers such as Qatari Diar and the United Development Company to be the line provider in their future projects, but had not yet decided whether the service will start early or late next year.

Such projects would include Qatari Diar's Lusali Development Project which is spread over 35 square kilometres and include commercial, residential and retail space for 200,000 people as well as hospitals, entertainment centres and schools.

William Fagan, executive director of ictQatar, the country's telecommunications regulatory authority, has previously stated in an earlier interview that the provider contract was expected to go to Vodafone Qatar after being picked from amongst two other bidders, PCCW Limited (Pacific Century CyberWorks) from Hong Kong and France Télécom.
