The best hospital in the Gulf?

Qatar is determined to establish itself as a forerunner in UAE infrastructure, first with the 'Heart of Doha' project and now with a multi-billion-dollar healthcare project that aims to be the best in the Gulf region.

The HMC Hospital facility, set to be located at Medical City and manged by by US-based Hill International, is expected to become the "leading hospital in the region and beyond for the treatment of children, women and long term care as well as rehabilitation."

According to Hill International strategic development senior vice president, Tim Judge, the project will feature four different hospitals - a children’s hospital, women’s hospital, the physical medicine and rehabilitation hospital and skilled nursing facility.

High-tech facility

According to ArabianBusiness, the children’s hospital will accommodate approximately 250 beds together with an emergency department, radiology, out-patients clinics, in-patient surgical suite and paediatric cardiac catheterisation unit.

The women’s hospital will offer 200 beds with 16 labour delivery rooms and three cesarian section operating rooms while the physical medicine and rehabilitation hospital will have five floors each with two 20-patient room units plus an adult hydro-therapy unit consisting of one large pool area, two pool rooms.

The skilled nursing facility will have capacity for 270 beds and all four hospitals will share a car park for more than 1,100 cars.

The site will also have other ancillary buildings including a nurses club, staff club, two mosques and an education centre.

Construction work on the nurses club, education centre and Friday mosque started on January 24.
