Oberoi, the Indian luxury hotel group, has signed up to a new property at Doha's mega project Al Wa'ab City, it was announced on Tuesday. Al Wa'ab City is Doha's first family-oriented community, a self sustained city within the city of Doha. A fully integrated mixed-use development comprised of residential, commercial, retail, hospitality and entertainment components set amidst ample lush gardens.

The Oberoi Hotel, Doha is due to be completed by 2014 and will crown what is soon to become Qatar's newest retail, leisure and entertainment destination, the Barahat Al Wa'ab.

Al Wa'ab City Management said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Oberoi Hotels and Resorts to build 225 rooms and suites, 30 serviced apartments in addition to premium outlets for fine dining, leisure and health amenities.

"I feel that Oberoi and Al Wa'ab City are natural partners." said P.R.S. Oberoi, Chairman of The Oberoi Group. "We are both dedicated to providing a very special personalised service and are committed to our clients.

"This MOU is a great example of how Al Wa'ab City is consistently aiming at achieving growth and excellence and remaining true to our mission and commitment to being Qatar's leading real estate developers." said Sheikha Hanadi Nasser Bin Khaled Al Thani, CEO of Al Wa'ab City Management.

The Oberoi Group, founded in 1934 operates 27 hotels and three cruisers in five countries, under the luxury ‘Oberoi' and five-star ‘Trident' brands. The Group is also engaged in flight catering, managing airport restaurants, travel and tour services, car rentals, project management and corporate air charters.

Oberoi Hotels & Resorts have received many awards and accolades. In 2008, three Oberoi hotels were ranked amongst the six best on the world by readers of 'Travel & Leisure World's Best Awards 2008'.

Al Wa'ab City will extend to approximately 1.25 million square metres of space with one fifth of this area being dedicated to exotic landscaped gardens.

"Since the launch of our project, we made sure to build our momentum by defining and meeting numerous benchmarks. To sign an MOU with a group of Oberoi Hotels & Resorts' exceptional quality and character is exactly the level of association we expect the Al Wa'ab City project to be aligned with. I'm sure this will be a great partnership, we look forward to welcoming the Oberoi hotel in Al Wa'ab City and the city of Doha," said Sheikha Hanadi Nasser Bin Khaled Al Thani, CEO of Al Wa'ab City Management.
