The Lusail Expressway
As countries from Saudi Arabia to Iraq to the UAE invest heavily in their infrastructure, roads and highways are one area that is awarding more and more contracts these days. As such, MENA Infrastructure are looking at the latest road projects and the contracts that have been awarded. Today, it seems it is all about Qatar.
The Doha Expressway
In Qatar, the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) have awarded a contract worth QR1.59 billion for the implementation of the '7th Package of the Doha Expressway' which covers the second phase of the Salwa Road project.
The contract that was signed this week, sees the construction of the 6.9 km freeway that extends from 700 meters of the third package (Industrial Interchange) up to 300 meters before (Al Asiri Interchange).
The package also includes construction of four Single Point Urban Interchanges (SPUI) at the intersection of Salwa Road with Al Bustan Interchange (Qatar Décor), Wholesale Market Interchange, Aziziyya Interchange and New Al Ghanem Roundabout.
The Lusail Expressway
Dubbed the largest road and infrastructure project in Doha, the Lusail Expressway when finished will service all new areas of high development concentration north of Doha, starting from the Arch Roundabout all the way to Ritz- Carlton Hotel, the Towers Zone, New Diplomatic Area, Cultural Village, Lusail as well as The Pearl-Qatar.
Construction work is expected to begin before the end of the budget year, with the project expected to take 36 months.
Along with some Ashghal's other projects such as the Dukhan East project which is under negotiations, the Dukhan Central and the Industrial Interchange to Muntazah road which is to be tendered in the next couple of months, a Project Management Consultancy tender for the expressway is expected to be awarded within the next two weeks.
It is hoped that such investment in Qatar's infrastructure will aid their bid to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
