The centrepiece of Dubai's Technopark, an information technology park currently under construction in the heart of the emirate's industrial zone, is to be a spherical building called The Dubai Technosphere.
Designed to show the state of the Earth in the present and the future, the Dubai Technosphere will be a giant carbon neutral building when it is finished. Echoing the Spaceship Earth at Disney's Epcot Center, the Technosphere is meant to replicate the Earth at a structural level and will enable visitors to study the issues of self-sustaining life on a smaller level.
The building was designed by James Law Cybertecture, who have also designed the Du Tower in Abu Dhabi. Once finished, the Technosphere will have enough room to accommodate office space, residential space, a hotel and public courtyards.

In James Law Cyberture's own words, "his living, breathing building operates in a similar fashion to the Earth itself, providing energy, recycling water, and providing sustenance to its occupants. The exterior forms a shell around the interior spaces and will house solar panels for electricity generation. Inside, sky gardens act to shield the interior spaces from the sun and filter the air to contribute fresh oxygen to the indoor environment. Water will be recycled and efficiently used."
James Law, chief 'cybertech' of the project specialises in cybertecture, which is a combination of advanced technologies, architecture, and multimedia experiences for users. It will hopefully draw businesses to Dubai's Technopark, which will cover an area of 21 million sqm of land, about 30 percent of which is open space areas.
It is hoped that Technopark, the science and technology facilitator of Economics Zones World, will act as a platform to facilitate the integration of scientific research and technological development into the economy.
It will also feature the Dubai Institute of Technology (DIT) which will comprise of centres of excellence, research projects, interactive forums involving world renowned scientists and technology experts, training programmes and high-level science and technology events.
