Oman has extended the deadline for international firms to bid for the construction of the new terminal at Muscat's main airport. The US$1.4 billion project has already attracted the interest of French Vinci and Indian Larsen & Toubro.
The deadline has been pushed back to August 31 with the Oman tender board saying that, "Bidders needed more time to prepare for the new changes."
It is not the first time the tender has been pushed back, this will be the third time it has happened with the project being pushed back twice this year alone.
Oman had short-listed six firms for the US$1.4 billion scheme in February, including Bechtel, the largest US engineering firm, Saudi Binladen Group, Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Co (CCC) and Joannou & Paraskevaides from Cyprus.
A US$1.17 billion joint contract has already been awarded to Turkey's TAV Construction and CCC to provide civil works at the country's main airport.
The airport currently handles about four million passengers a year but hopes to increase that to 12 million passengers when both expansions are completed.
