Synthetic lubricants

«Products manufactured from various components by means of chemical processes under controlled conditions» That is how the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) defines synthetic lubricants.

Synthetic lubricants meet requirements which conventional mineral oil based lubricants either cannot fulfil at all, or only in part, such as

• High and low temperature characteristics 
• Fire resistance 
• Low evaporation losses, etc.

Classification

• Base oils used for formulating synthetic lubricants
• HC (hydrocrack)
• PAO (polyalphaolefines) 
• Polyglycols

These four base oils may also be blended together or with mineral oil, thus combining their benefits.
