Omnicrypt™ Security Architecture
Omnisec’s answer for organizations requiring the highest possible grade security is unique and innovative: the Omnicrypt™ Security Architecture (OSA).
OSA avoids the unacceptable operational or technical vulnerabilities incurred by other off-the-shelf solutions which promise confidentiality, integrity and availability of transmitted data. Although these all use some form of cryptography to encrypt messages and files or to verify digital signatures, they often involve manually entering the keys, storing them on a computer or server, exchanging them across a public network, or depositing them with third parties.
In contrast, OSA is based on the following four fundamental building blocks:
• Key Management. A customer’s symmetric Master Keys are generated automatically from a random, “white noise” source, using a highly sophisticated, tamper-proof device, known as the Security Module Programmer.
The Master Keys are stored on small hardware tokens, called Security Modules (SMs), and never leave them in any form. These SMs must be physically transferred by the customer to the sites participating in the secure network and inserted into the relevant encryption devices. Once installed, the SMs use the secret Master Keys to produce unique, short-lived Session Keys, which are each used once and only once.
• Hardware. Each Omnisec encryption device constitutes the critical border between the “red” zone, where sensitive information is accessible in clear form, and the “black” zone, where it is protected by encryption. For this reason, very special hardware design measures are used to suppress crosstalk between the circuits carrying plain information and those handling the cryptogram. Refined test facilities ensure that no data-carrying radiation leaves the device.
• Cryptography. The encryption algorithms developed by Omnisec, together with the secret symmetric Session Keys provided by the Security Module, offer unsurpassed levels of security. Connection-oriented encryption is based on our proprietary Stream Ciphers, whereas protocol-oriented encryption makes use of our Block Ciphers.
• Operational Security. For the user, the main advantage of encryption equipment based on OSA is that the complex functions – key generation, key renewal, and permanent monitoring to prevent inadvertent plain transmission – are performed automatically, in the background, without requiring any operator interaction. The highly sophisticated security procedures thus do not depend on the reliability or skill of the operating personnel. Operators also appreciate the fact that they cannot be blackmailed for key information, as they never see any keys.
